Derived primarily from the Mexican flat-leaved vanilla, Vanilla Essential Oil is comes from orchids of the genus Vanilla. The Spanish conquistador Hernán Cortés introduced both vanilla and chocolate to Europe in the 1520s, which accounts for the fact that the word Vanilla is derived from the Spanish word vaina (meaning pod).
